Midway Caravan Backyard Children’s Circus

Based in Freeville, NY, The Midway Caravan Inc., has been innovating and entertaining for over 25 years at fairs, festivals, parks, and communities from New York to Hawaii. Bringing back memories of the days before television, when kids made up their own fun in their own back yards, more than 30 children can be picked to join the circus. Adults provide support by clapping and cheering. Costumes drop right over kids’ clothes, and participants are chosen strictly on the basis of enthusiasm. This show strives to maintain a homemade look.

Moonlight Dancers

Dance styles include, Turkish Oriental and Rom (Gypsy, Egyptian Oriental, Folkloric: Saidi, & Ghawazee (Nawar/Gypsies), Spanish – Zambra Mora, Rom (Gypsy), and Russian Rom (Gypsy).

Jiamie Pyles and Her Old Time String Players

Jiamie Pyles returns to the Rhiner Festival for the second year in a row all the way from The Plains, Virginia, to enchant us with her sweet musical sound. She's joined by Steve Selin (Evil City String Band and All American Hell Drivers) and other local musicians, playing songs in the old time tradition. Lend your ear to hear some fine fiddle tunes, murder ballads and an original song or two.

The Green Deeps

From the deep green hills of the Finger Lakes wine country, the Green Deeps play the new music of rural America with an eclectic/electric edge, with styles ranging from roots, pop, Irish, folk, country Cajun-grass, blues, and more. Indefinable and always original, instruments may include the dobro, accordian, lap steel, African Kora, concertina, mandolin, banjo, the low-down stand-up bass, harmonica, sax, and drums, all steeped in a sweet three part harmony.

Hee Haw Nightmare

Hee Haw Nightmare is a fiddler in a chainmail loincloth, a slap-happy upright bass, and a singer trying to murder his guitar while crooning wildly at the top of his lungs. They play love-crazed and demented originals, a few outlaw country standards, some oddball covers, bluegrass and blues traditional, and a handful of old-time numbers, as a result of which they are often referred to as an ‘old-time’ band. However, the fellows greatly prefer this description:

".. What happens when you give cannibal rednecks musical instruments?”

Toivo

Hailing from Trumansburg, NY, Toivo plays original accordion numbers, Finnish tunes, Tex-Mex tunes, and dance numbers from all over the place. Richard Koski, button accordion; Jason Koski, mandolin; Jim Reidy, guitar; Stefan Senders, banjo; Harley Campbell, upright bass; and Annie Campbell, snare drum.

Swampdog

Consisting of Larry Stamatel, Steve Palumbo, Jason Violette and John Chapman, Swampdog will help the festival transition from day into night, playing some Dylan, some Sinatra, some other covers... as well as blow you away with his originals.

The Bill Murray Experience

The headlining band for the Moonshine Island Speakeasy, the Bill Murray Experience is a New York City based ensemble specializing in early American roots and jazz music from the late 1800’s to the 1930’s. The group features Jessy Carolina on Vocals and washboard, Jay Sanford on double bass, Horatio Baltz on guitar and Blind Boy Paxton on piano and banjo.
