The Rock Salt Mine 1916-1985 - by Mrs. Bement’s Fourth Grade Published by Lansing Elementary School, 1984-1985 This pamphlet summarizes the research of the Cayuga Rock Salt Mine made by Mrs. Bement’s Fourth Grade Class in Lansing Elementary School. The history of the mine, which is over 1/2 mile deep and extends for miles under Cayuga Lake, is told from its first shaft in 1916 to the present through personal interviews, newspaper articles, and company sources.
