Cemetery Scavenger Hunt - Youth Program

Registration

  • Please include child's first name and age for registration.

    Space in each program is limited and preference will be given to youth participants. Due to event capacity guidelines please have no more than one adult attend per child, and if possible one adult may register and supervise multiple children. Adults must stay with child for the entirety of each program, and are requested not to leave the event.

    Photo's may be taken at all programs, if you would prefer your child is not photographed please inform the staff when you arrive.

    All registrants will be contacted two days before the program, if you are unable to attend please contact community@thehistorycenter.net so your space may be offered to those on the waitlist.

    No child or guardian who has recently tested positive for COVID-19, or been in close contact with someone who tested positive is permitted to attend our in-person programs until they have received a negative test from their doctor. Guardians will be asked to sign a Health Declaration form at the start of each program, affirming neither they or their child are currently exhibiting any of the symptoms associated with COVID-19.

Cemetery Scavenger Hunt

Learn the hidden symbols of cemeteries, and find out who is buried in Trumansburg!

WHEN: Sunday October 25th 2-3pm - Youth ages 8-14

WHERE: Grove Cemetery - Trumansburg 8825 Falls Rd Trumansburg, NY 14886

PRESENTERS: John Wertis - Ulysses Town Historian, Zoe Van Nostrand - The History Center in Tompkins County

Kids (ages 8-14) & families are invited to Grove Cemetery in Trumansburg for an afternoon Cemetery Scavenger Hunt! John Wertis, Ulysses Town Historian, will share some of the history of Trumansburg and the cemetery. All children will then be given an hour to search out hidden stones, shapes, and names throughout the graveyard. Every participant will receive a local history prize!

**Parents/guardians must drive children to the event. We are not able to coordinate or offer carpools for this program**

This FREE program is intended for kids 8-14. Reading comprehension is necessary for this program. Interested adults may download the Cemetery Scavenger Hunt booklet from thehistorycenter.net/history-at-home and complete the activity in their own time at any cemetery in Tompkins County. 

Donations to this program will support future youth programs at The History Center in Tompkins County.
