Quilted With Care 1996 Retrospective - Stories, Conversation, & Quilt Share

WHEN: Thursday April 13th - 4-5:30pm

WHERE: CAP ArtSpace Gallery (First Floor) in the Tompkins Center for History & Culture on the Ithaca Commons - 110 North Tioga St. Ithaca NY 14850.

PRESENTERS: Panelists include: Two Ithaca Breast Cancer Alliance founders, Anne McLaughlin & Andi Gladstone; and Quilted with Care organizers Kristin Thompson & Brigid Hubberman.

Inspired by the nine women who had just come together to found the Ithaca Breast Cancer Alliance and support women impacted by Breast Cancer, in 1996 120 quiltmakers from the Tompkins County Quilters Guild from across Tompkins County gathered together to help by making small quilts to be auctioned to benefit the fledgling new organization.

The success of Quilted with Care went far beyond the funds raised with new community awareness and connection made. With warmth and beauty 120 women stitched hope, love into their small quilts raising $27,000. Join IBCA Founders and Quilted with Care Organizers and quiltmakers for a slide show, live quilts, and a panel conversation reflecting on the power and beauty of 1996 Quilted with Care program and its lasting impact.

Community members who made a quilt or purchased one, or  are invited to bring their stories of the experience and small quilts they won to share. Contact Brigid Hubberman at brigid.hubberman@gmail.com if you have a story or quilt to share as part of this program. Knot Sew Fast quilt exhibit will be open before and after the program.

No registration necessary.
