NEW BOOK OF 100 SUNDAE RECIPES CELEBRATES ITHACA'S GIFT TO THE WORLD

Be the first to purchase your copy at The History Center's Day of Family Fun!

ice cream sundayIthaca, New York is the birthplace of the ice cream sundae and the source of a new book that includes 100 versions of the enduring American dessert. "Ice Cream Sundae: 100 Greatest Fountain Formulas" is local author Michael Turback's third book on the topic of the sundae, following "A Month of Sundaes" (2002) and "More Than a Month of Sundaes" (2006). The latest work uses historical context to identify sundaes that reflect fountain culture over the past century.

The just-published book will make its local debut at The History Center's "August Family Day" on Saturday, August 29th, 2009. The event includes a book signing by the author and free ice cream sundaes by Purity Ice Cream. Proceeds from book sales will benefit The History Center.

About the Author

For nearly 30 years Michael Turback operated Turback's Restaurant, an Ithaca tradition. Known for his versatility and invention as a writer, he has taken on, with distinction, such topics as hot chocolate, mocha, coffee drinks, the food and wine of New York's Finger Lakes region, and, of course, the ice cream sundae. His works have been reviewed in publications as diverse as Good Housekeeping and Playboy. He has talked about ice cream on Martha Stewart Radio and NPR's Talk of the Nation, and his sundae-making skills have been seen on 60 Minutes II and The CBS Early Show. He makes his home in Ithaca, New York, where the ice cream sundae was invented in 1892.
