Object Transcription Tutorial

  • The History Center in Tompkins County 110 North Tioga Street Ithaca, NY, 14850 United States (map)

At this Volunteer Meet-up we’ll go over the current project to digitize the object collection onto our online catalog. Then, we’ll do a step-by-step tutorial on how to transcribe paper object records into google sheets. If time allows, we will also review the process to input transcribed records into the online catalog software. Some familiarity with Google Suite is helpful, but not required. More important than tech skill is patience and a close reading eye.

After this tutorial, volunteers will be equipped to participate in the transcription process during their regular volunteer times, or during specially scheduled visits.

WHO: This program is for current volunteers of The History Center interested in participating in our ongoing work to digitize the object collection.

WHAT: Bring a laptop and an eye for detail.
