A Watch On The Rhine: Cherry Arts Gallery

  • The History Center in Tompkins County 110 North Tioga Street Ithaca, NY, 14850 United States (map)

This special benefit event for The Cherry Arts will showcase three 30-minute documentaries by retired Ithaca College professor of Television & Digital Media Production Gossa Tsegaye, widely known for his probing examinations of marginalized communities in the region.

The Dividing Line (1988) and Generation of the Rhines (1994) present compelling narratives of urban transformation and community displacement, interweaving personal reminiscences with historical photography to explore the lives of residents of Ithaca’s pre-flood-control West End neighborhood. The Jungle’s Edge (2007) takes an in-depth look at an area homeless encampment over a multiyear period.

Before and after the film showing, David Fogel will be on hand at the Cherry Gallery to give guided tours of his West End Diorama.

This event is co-sponsored by The History Center in Tompkins County. A donation of any amount allows entry to this event.
