HistoryForge Transcription Session
HistoryForge is an open-source platform that integrates the historic demographic data in census records, maps, and other sources, allowing for its visual representation on historic maps layered over a Google Map.
The time intensive work of digitizing materials and coding them into the database is entirely done by our phenomenal crew of volunteers. Volunteers have transcribed the U.S. Census from 1900-1940 to create a repository filled with information about historic Ithaca’s people and buildings.
Sessions are held bi-weekly. First-time volunteers should arrive 30 minutes early, at 10:30 am, for an orientation.
WHO: History detectives and curious community members
WHAT: Laptop or iPad necessary
WHERE: Second Floor Conference Room, The History Center in Tompkins County
WHEN: 10:30 am for first-time volunteers, 11:00 am for return volunteers
